My Week With Halloween Films in 2016 - Day 4

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

Two teens, Mike and Debbie, and Farmer Gene (a little further away) spot a shooting star which seems to land near to Farmer Gene. All decide to investigate. Farmer Gene, being the closest, arrives first, with his dog. In the area where the shooting star landed, he sees a clown tent that is strangely solid. While Farmer Gene's back is turned his dog gets captured by a strange looking clown. Farmer Gene gets zapped by another clown not long after. A short while later, Mike and Debbie turn up to the same spot and enter the clown tent. Inside they find it to be much larger inside than outside and it resembles more of a building with corridors and rooms. They enter a room with huge candy floss type objects in them and Mike investigates them. Upon pulling back the floss-like substance they spot Farmer Gene inside and almost get captured by a clown themselves. Narrowly escaping the tent, they try and convince the town what they have seen.

This film is very much a Gremlins/Critters type of film in the style and execution. It is regarded as a cult classic and I can see why. It's an enjoyable film, the effects are still pretty good (much like Gremlins/Critters) and it's not really cheesy. Definitely one to watch if you've never seen it.

Most Gruesome Moment: Returning back from seeing clowns killing people, Dave (the town's police sheriff) heads back to the police station. After seeing the clown prints leading to the cells and the two cocooned prisoners, he heads back to the office. In the office sits a clown, who swivels around in the armchair to reveal Officer Mooney next to him. Mooney seems to speak to Dave in a puppeted way with the clown acting more like a puppeteer. After Mooney finishes speaking the clown pulls back his heavily blood stained hand from Mooney's back.
